Title: Bartender

We are seeking candidates passionate about craft beverages and hospitality who desire to be part of a team. Reporting to the General Manager, this critical position will exceed guests’ expectations by providing timely, accurate, and friendly service while preparing the highest quality beverages. This hourly position is located at our Carmel location, with varying hours based on business needs.

Everyday Essential Tasks:

Welcome and greet guests
Take beverage orders from guests and servers
Verify age of all guests who appear under 30 years old
Prepare and serve alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks consistent with standard recipes
Learn names and personally recognize regular guests
Accurately record drink orders and process them in the POS system
Accept guest payments, process credit cards, and make change if applicable
Prepare garnishes and replenish appetizers for bar guests
Maintain bottles and glasses attractively and functionally to support efficient drink preparation
Clear and reset bar top promptly and efficiently
Present drink menus, make recommendations, and answer questions about beers and beverages
Maintain cleanliness of bar counters, sinks, utensils, shelves, and storage areas
Receive and serve food orders to bar guests
Report equipment problems and maintenance issues to the manager on duty
Assist in restocking and replenishing bar inventory and supplies
Thank guests and invite them to return
Fill in as needed to ensure smooth operation as directed by management
Comply with all company safety and health policies

Skills & Experience:

High school diploma or equivalent required
Must be at least 21 years old
Minimum 1 year bartending experience in a restaurant or pub with a full bar preferred
Ability to maintain a professional demeanor in stressful situations
Excellent verbal and listening communication skills
Team-oriented with a willingness to help where needed
Passion for providing extraordinary service
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment
Flexible availability for various shifts
Upbeat, outgoing, and positive attitude
Valid Safe Food Handling certification (ServSafe) required
Current TIPS training certification preferred

Physical & Mental Requirements:

Ability to stand and walk for prolonged periods
Ability to maneuver on uneven ground
Ability to read and follow written English instructions
Ability to twist, turn, kneel, climb, stoop, bend, and crawl regularly
Ability to lift and carry supplies up to 50+ pounds occasionally and 25 pounds regularly
Ability to safely navigate crowded spaces
Operate food preparation appliances and machinery
Tolerate exposure to extreme temperature changes
Perform repetitive hand movements related to food preparation
Work in indoor and outdoor environments with moderate noise and occasional slippery floors
Comply with and enforce health, safety, and personal hygiene standards

About Alvarado Street Brewery: Founded in 2014 by John and J.C. Hill, Alvarado Street Brewery began as a neighborhood brewery restaurant in Downtown Monterey and has expanded to three locations serving Monterey County locals and visitors. Our production brewery and tasting room opened in Salinas in 2016, followed by our R&D pilot brewery and bistro in Carmel-by-the-Sea in 2018, known as the “Stro.” Our newest location in Oldtown Salinas opened in fall 2022.
