Title: Bartender

We are seeking candidates passionate about craft beverages and hospitality, eager to be part of a team. Reporting to the General Manager, this important position aims to exceed guests’ expectations by providing timely, accurate, and friendly service while preparing high-quality beverages. This role is based at our Oldtown Salinas location. It is an hourly, full-time position with variable hours depending on business needs.

Responsibilities:

Welcome and greet guests
Take beverage orders from guests and servers
Verify age for guests appearing under 30
Prepare and serve alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks following standard recipes
Recognize and learn regular guests’ names
Accurately record drink orders and process them through the POS system
Accept payments, process credit card transactions, and provide change when applicable
Prepare garnishes and replenish appetizers for bar guests
Maintain bottles and glasses attractively and functionally to support efficient drink preparation and beverage promotion
Clear and reset the bar promptly and efficiently
Present drink menus, make recommendations, and answer questions about beers and beverages
Keep the bar area clean, including counters, sinks, utensils, shelves, and storage
Receive and serve food orders to guests at the bar
Report equipment and maintenance issues to the manager on duty
Assist in restocking and replenishing bar inventory and supplies
Thank guests and invite them to return
Fill in as needed to support smooth restaurant operations as directed by the manager
Comply with all company safety and health policies and procedures

Requirements:

Minimum age of 21
High school diploma or equivalent
At least 1 year bartending experience in a restaurant or pub with a full bar preferred
Valid Safe Food Handling certification (ServSafe) required
TIPS training certification preferred
Ability to maintain a professional demeanor in stressful situations
Excellent verbal and listening communication skills
Team player with a desire to assist where needed
Passion for providing extraordinary service
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment
Flexibility to work various shifts
Upbeat, outgoing, and positive attitude

Physical and Mental Requirements:

Ability to stand, walk, and be on feet for prolonged periods
Ability to maneuver on uneven surfaces
Ability to read and follow written English instructions
Ability to twist, turn, kneel, climb, stoop, bend, and crawl regularly
Ability to lift and carry supplies and equipment up to 25 pounds regularly and 50+ pounds occasionally
Ability to navigate crowded spaces safely
Operation of food preparation appliances and machinery
Tolerance for exposure to extreme temperature changes
Ability to perform daily repetitive hand movements related to food preparation
Work in indoor and outdoor environments with moderate noise and occasionally slippery floors
Ability to comply with and enforce health, safety, and personal hygiene standards

About Alvarado Street Brewery: Founded in 2014 by John and J.C. Hill, Alvarado Street Brewery started as a neighborhood brewery in Downtown Monterey and now has three locations serving Monterey County locals and visitors. The production brewery and tasting room opened in Salinas in 2016, followed by a pilot brewery and bistro in Carmel-by-the-Sea in 2018. The newest location opened in Oldtown Salinas in fall 2022.
