Location: Bodega Taqueria y Tequila, River North - Chicago, IL 60654 Salary Range: $13.60 hourly

Bodega Taqueria y Tequila is seeking a dynamic and experienced Barback to join our team. The primary responsibility of the Barback is to ensure the bar is properly set and maintained to support efficient bar operations. This includes maintaining cleanliness, running food, setting up and breaking down the bar, and supporting bar staff as needed. The role reports to the General Manager or Assistant General Manager.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Team Collaboration:

Create and maintain a positive work environment fostering teamwork and professional growth.
Maintain cleanliness by disposing of waste, cleaning glassware, and wiping down bar and prep areas.
Participate in deep cleaning and respond to spills or special guest requests.
Assist bar staff when necessary.
Collaborate with management on special events, promotions, and marketing initiatives.

Quality Control:

Maintain stock of consumable supplies like plates, napkins, and utensils.
Ensure adequate stock levels at workstations, wells, and storage areas.
Address beverage quality issues promptly.
Develop knowledge of beverages including ingredients and preparation techniques.

Operations Support:

Prepare mixers, cut fruit, check inventory levels, refill mixers, get ice, run food, and manage waste disposal.
Sweep floors, polish equipment, mop, clean glassware, and wipe mirrors.
Set up and break down the bar.
Perform general cleaning tasks following health and safety standards.

Customer Service:

Ensure no alcoholic beverages are served to minors or intoxicated persons.
Create a welcoming atmosphere by engaging guests and providing personalized service.
Communicate effectively with customers and staff.
Maintain composure during busy periods and emergencies.
Collaborate with departments to maintain high guest service standards.

Compliance and Safety:

Follow health, safety, and internal policy regulations.
Oversee alcohol safety including proper storage and handling.
Adhere to all alcohol service laws ensuring responsible practices.

Minimum Requirements:

High school diploma or equivalent.
Previous experience in customer service or food service preferred.
Basic math and cash handling skills.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions.
Knowledge of food safety and hygiene practices.
Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.
High professional integrity and ability to work safely and efficiently.
Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.

Safety Requirements:

Follow all safety rules and practice safe work habits.
Report any injuries immediately to supervisor or security.

Language Requirements:

Ability to speak, read, and write English clearly and professionally.
Effective communication with staff and vendors.

Physical Requirements:

Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, use hands, reach, talk, and hear.
Requires good vision capabilities including close, distance, color, peripheral vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
