Job Description
Job Title: Barback
Location: Congress Hall Hotel, Cape May, NJ 08204
Pay Rate: $10.00 per hour plus tips
Position Overview: The Barback is responsible for ensuring the bar is fully stocked and maintained to support efficient bar operations. This includes maintaining cleanliness, restocking supplies, assisting bartenders, and handling setup and breakdown tasks.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare mixers, cut fruit, and refill mixers
- Receive and restock requisitions including beverage, food, and non-food items
- Collect and dispose of garbage
- Sweep floors, mop, polish brass and steel, clean glassware, and wipe down mirrors
- Set up and break down the bar daily
- Keep Brown Room doors and Service Station doors clean
- Assist bartenders as needed and stay available during shifts
- Continuously bus tables and clear empty glassware and plates
- Arrange furniture according to the floor plan when not in use
- Put liquor deliveries away while checking in regularly with bartenders
- Work efficiently and maintain a fast pace to support timely beverage service
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Minimum legal age to serve alcohol
- Prior bar experience preferred
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Basic computational ability
- Strong knowledge of drink preparation and health standards
- Ability to work indoors in moderate temperatures as well as extreme conditions, e.g., freezers (-10°F) and kitchens (+110°F), for up to one hour
- Ability to stand and move continuously for up to 4 hours
- Ability to multitask and maneuver efficiently during simultaneous activities
- Maintain a neat, clean, and well-groomed appearance per Congress Hall standards
