Position: Barback Department: Food and Beverage Reports to: Restaurant Manager Status: Non-Exempt

Position Summary: The Barback is the Bartender’s right hand. They must be acutely in tune to the flow of service within their station and anticipate guest needs. Responsibilities include setup, service, and cleanup of service items according to company standards and safety and sanitation policies. Constant communication with the Bartender and attention to detail are essential.

Responsibilities:

Assist Bartenders, Servers, and Hosts in properly serving food and beverages when requested.
Clear, clean, and reset the bar following company and sanitation standards.
Crumb tables as directed by Servers.
Transport dirty tableware to the dish drop area and sort accordingly.
Maintain stock and cleanliness of the bar throughout all meal periods.
Wipe down bar surfaces, chairs, and clean floors as needed.
Organize and stock the bar to ensure it is visually appealing.
Respond promptly and graciously to guest service issues and report to Servers or Manager on Duty.
Maintain an acceptable appearance of the bar station and surrounding areas.
Perform special cleaning projects such as dusting, polishing, and scrubbing walls as needed.
Foster communication and teamwork with co-workers and supervisors.
Conduct oneself professionally, mindful that all actions are visible to guests.
Additional tasks may be assigned at the manager’s discretion based on business needs.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Ability to think and communicate clearly in high-pressure situations.
Ability to move quickly and gracefully throughout the dining room.
Growing knowledge of the menu, ingredients, cooking techniques, and glassware types.
Punctuality and ability to maintain regular attendance in complete uniform.
Basic knowledge of sanitation.
Knowledge of computer operations and ordering procedures.
Effective communication with guests, coworkers, and supervisors.
Capacity to absorb large amounts of information quickly including service procedures and register operations.

Physical Demands:

Ability to walk and stand throughout an eight-hour shift.
Ability to lift, balance, and carry large dining room trays.
Ability to lift, push, pull, and move up to 40 lbs.
