Job Summary: The Bartender is responsible for consistently delivering results that contribute to the mission and overall success of the hotel by accomplishing performance objectives in the social venues. This includes setting up, servicing, and breaking down the bar area to ensure high quality, consistency, and service.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Greet guests as they approach the bar; promote house drinks and use upselling skills to maximize revenues.
- Prepare beverages as requested, adhering to pouring standards and recipes for consistency and cost control.
- Coordinate food service with restaurant(s) for bar/lounge guests if applicable.
- Monitor guest behavior and alcohol consumption; check IDs when age is questionable.
- Alert management to any service or safety issues and make appropriate service recovery gestures.
- Set up the bar with liquor, mixers, ice, garnishes, glassware, and supplies; perform pre- and post-shift side work.
- Inventory unused liquor and beverages; ensure proper security of all liquor before, during, and after shifts.
- Handle cash and credit payments accurately; maintain and balance the cash drawer.
- Clean and maintain bar area including counters, equipment, stools, tables, and floors.
- Promote teamwork and quality service through communication with other departments.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Basic reading, writing, and math skills.
- Knowledge of liquor brands, beer, wine, champagne, non-alcoholic beverages, glassware, preparation methods, and garnishes.
- Formal bartending training preferred.
- Must meet state legal age requirements.
- Fluent English required.
- Ability to carry or lift up to 50 pounds, move about bar/lounge/kitchen, bend, stoop, kneel.
- Strong communication skills for interaction with guests and staff.
- Alcohol awareness certification and/or food service permit or valid health/food handler card as required.
- May be required to work nights, weekends, and holidays.
Pay Range: $22.90/hr base pay, which may vary depending on knowledge, skills, and experience.
